Let's use tech solve the problem that tech has created!

We know technology. We love technology. During our years in the IT industry we have solved many social problems - but also created a new one. We have contributed to a sedentary society. This is not OK. 

SCRIIN started as an non-profit organization to promote a physically active and healthy life for our children and adolescents. Today we work with families, schools and experts in psychology, gamification and physical education. Our common focus is the health of our digtial natives . 

SCRIIN is a team of social entrepreneurs with deep competence in technology. We take advantage of technology, we use and take initiative to scientific studies. Our success is measured in social impact and for us that means improved health and digital wellbeing for children and youth. We will adapt the digital society to our children - not the other way around. 

SCRIIN is both a tech startup and a non-profit organization. The non-profit part is oriented towards shools where we offer them to borrow activity trackers and use our apps for free. We do this to inspire a more active school-day and digital well-being.

Relaunch of SCRIIN smartphone hotel
​– in collaboration with Nokia, Epicenter and Bonnier

For the second year in a row, SCRIIN opens up our hotel for smartphones. This year, in collaboration with Nokia Phones & publisher Bonnier Fakta at the digital innovation house Epicenter, in the center of Stockholm. The setup is the same as last year, check in your smartphone and borrow a classic mobile phone that keeps you in contact with family and friends but does not invite endless scrolling.

Give your child (and yourself) a daily budget of screen time.

Create accounts for all your family members and give each family member a daily screen time budget. Depending on age, the amount of screen time can differ.

Get notifications before screen time is up​

The SCRIIN App will notify your child when their screen time is coming to an end and finally shut down access to the Internet. The first notification comes 15 minutes before time is up, followed by warnings 5 minutes and then 1 minute before screen time is up. We think it is important to prepare for shutdown so children have time to say goodbye to their online friends.

Problem – we sit down

Only 22% of girls under 18 years of age reach WHO’s recommendation of 60 minutes of physical activity per day. At school the children sit down 70-90% of the time and during the weekends it can be even worse. In average we move one Marathon less per week than 30 years ago.

One reason for the sedentary lifestyle is the increased time we spend in front of our screens. Spontaneous exercise is decreasing in favor of spending time on social media or playing video games.

Get the balance right

Screens are here to stay and we all love them. They make us learn an amazing amount of new things, they boost our creativity, they make us more productive and evolve our social skills. They help us connect with our friends and they entertain us. We have a lot of fun everyday with our screens and they release dopamine in our brains. So it’s not strange that we get addicted to them. But our body is made for movement, we need to be physically active every day to stay healthy.

Research show that daily physical activity is not only vital for the physical health, but is also very important for many brain functions as it reduces stress, boosts creativity and improves memory. Studies have shown that children’s ability to learn in school increases significantly if they are physically active during the day.

There are so many things in life and the world around us that our children may miss if they spend a disproportionate amount of time in front of screens. SCRIIN loves new technology and will make use of it to  achieve a better balance between technology and life for the benefit of children and families in our digital society. Does it sound weird? Maybe, but we have some really exciting ideas...

The Team

Most of us in the SCRIIN team are senior software engineers and in some ways we have contributed to building the digital society that we now can see is creating challenges for both ourselves and our children.
