Problem – we sit down

Only 22% of girls under 18 years of age reach WHO’s recommendation of 60 minutes of physical activity per day. At school the children sit down 70-90% of the time and during the weekends it can be even worse. In average we move one Marathon less per week than 30 years ago.

One reason for the sedentary lifestyle is the increased time we spend in front of our screens. Spontaneous exercise is decreasing in favor of spending time on social media or playing video games.

Get the balance right

Screens are here to stay and we all love them. They make us learn an amazing amount of new things, they boost our creativity, they make us more productive and evolve our social skills. They help us connect with our friends and they entertain us. We have a lot of fun everyday with our screens and they release dopamine in our brains. So it’s not strange that we get addicted to them. But our body is made for movement, we need to be physically active every day to stay healthy.

Research show that daily physical activity is not only vital for the physical health, but is also very important for many brain functions as it reduces stress, boosts creativity and improves memory. Studies have shown that children’s ability to learn in school increases significantly if they are physically active during the day.

There are so many things in life and the world around us that our children may miss if they spend a disproportionate amount of time in front of screens. SCRIIN loves new technology and will make use of it to  achieve a better balance between technology and life for the benefit of children and families in our digital society. Does it sound weird? Maybe, but we have some really exciting ideas...

The Team

Most of us in the SCRIIN team are senior software engineers and in some ways we have contributed to building the digital society that we now can see is creating challenges for both ourselves and our children.
